While both Teacher Assistants and Teacher Aides support student learning, there are some differences in their responsibilities.
Teacher Assistants focus more on instructional duties, leading small group activities and helping deliver lesson plans. They might also do marking and be there for parent-teacher interviews.
Teacher Aides might concentrate more on student behaviour and development. You might supervise and monitor behaviour, handle admin and give one-on-one support to students.
Both are important roles in education, and you'll be qualified for either position with your Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support. Just keep in mind that many schools use these terms interchangeably, so you might see both titles used for similar positions.
As a Teacher Aide you'll have exciting opportunities in various school-based settings. Most Teacher Aides work in:
Primary schools
High schools
Private schools
Special needs schools
Faith-based schools
With 8,800 new Education Aide positions annually, there's growing demand for qualified people across all these settings. You might work in different areas of the school too — from classrooms to specialised learning spaces.
